ABOUT THE
MANAGEMENT & LEADERSHIP HUB

The LAPG Management & Leadership Hub (ML Hub) provides the non-profit specialist advice sector with:

  • Management & leadership training and workshops

  • Governance training and support

  • Compliance workshops and support

  • Resources

  • Facilitated communities of interest and exchanges

In addition to our existing work, we have been commissioned by the Access to Justice Foundation to provide the Funded Partner Support Programme for their National Lottery Community Fund funded ILTA (Improving Lives Through Advice) grant programme.

The Hub’s core offering is management and leadership training, largely through the annual Management & Leadership Training Programme (available, free of charge, to 30 current or future sector managers).  In addition, we are soon to launch a raft of training for new and more junior sector managers.

We also provide mentoring and consultancy as well as helpful resources.  Perhaps most importantly, we are building a community of managers who can share experience and learning.

What makes our management and leadership support unique? It is designed and delivered by and for managers and leaders in the specialist legal advice sector. Our training programmes, workshops and resources provide relevant information and practical skills useful for the reality of dealing with daily challenges in the legal advice sector.

MANAGEMENT & LEADERSHIP PROGRAMME

The 2025 programme will run from January – July 2025 and takes around 3 days a month to complete. The Management & Leadership Programme (MLP) will be delivered through a mix of structured Zoom group sessions and online modules you can complete when it suits you.

This is the most comprehensive management and leadership training programme for the non-profit specialist advice sector, developed by Matthew Howgate and Jayne Butler following extensive research with practitioners.

INTRODUCTION TO MANAGEMENT

Our Introduction to Management course is offered three times a year. Each one day module introduces participants to key management concepts for managing a team, and managing a project, which you can then choose to further develop on the Certificate in Practice Management (CPM) or Management & Leadership Programme (MLP).

This course is for new and soon to be managers, and aims to give you actionable tips and equip you with some of the basic skills needed to head a team and lead a project.

ALUMNI EVENTS

The alumni community is a way for managers from both our Certificate in Practice Management and  Management & Leadership Programme courses to meet each other and to have a space to discuss the challenges (and opportunities) of management and to think about what’s needed to lead that sector into the future.

We host events for the alumni community twice a year, and invite engaging and exciting speakers to challenge us to step away from the day to day and reflect on emerging issues and share learning: from hardened sector experts who can share lessons learned from past case studies, to specialists in emerging fields, to generalists whose expertise can bring a new light to the challenges we face.

TESTIMONIALS

“This course has completely changed the way I approach my work and the way I approach managing my team – it’s changed the way I think and has given me confidence in my decisions, and the skills to make sure those decisions are the right ones. I will use the knowledge and skills I’ve gained over the past 8 months for the rest of my career.”
